Detailed description of The Golf Club at Briars Creek

The Golf Club at Briar's Creek is a Private, 18 hole golf course located in Charleston, South Carolina.

After it officially opened in the fall of 2001, The Golf Club at Briar's Creek ascended up the lists of numerous national publication rankings, even gaining recognition as one of America's Top 100 Courses.

What makes Briar's Creek such a top-notch layout has as much to do with who designed it as the land on which it is built.

The Land:

There is no shortage of water, marshes, wetlands and wildlife, along with the occasional bunker, rough, and gently rolling, but quick putting surface. The course is set on more than 900 acres of scenic Johns Island.

The designer:

Nearly everything Rees Jones (the youngest son of legendary architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr.) designs turns to gold, and The Golf Club at Briar's Creek is no different. Jones received a generous parcel of land on which to build his Low Country gem, routing it through 300 acres of woodlands, lagoons, marsh and waterways. "It's such a spectacular setting," says Jones, "I'm blessed that I had the opportunity to design this golf course."

The course measures 7,117 yards from the back tees but remains very playable and fair for all levels of golfers. There are six sets of tee boxes, with the shortest tees (the Red) measuring just 4,818 yards.

Any golfer who can find a way to play this pristine golf course which is one of the finest creations that Rees Jones ever designed, and I've played dozens of his, should jump at the opportunity. What a beautiful golf course! There isn't one blade of grass out of place, not one green that isn't pure and not one hole that isn't worth playing over and over again. Whatever distance you have to drive, whatever green fee you have to pay, whoever's favor you have to ask, it will be more than worth the effort. This golf course is golden!

Would travel: 120-300 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area
